In addition to helping teachers and student organize their assignments and course work, Schoology can be a valuable tool for parents to view their child's academic life.

In this guide we will walk through signing in as a parent, viewing your child's upcoming assignments, current grades and course enrollments.

Signing into Schoology as a Parent

  1. Navigate directly to app.schoology.com/login . We recommend bookmarking this page. Image 1 - Navigating directly to the Schoology Login page.

  2. Next, enter your username or email, and the password associated with your account. In the box that says 'School or Postal Code' enter 'Dock' and choose your campus, as pictured below. If you have children on both campuses, you can choose either one, since the campuses are linked.

View Schoology as Your Child

  1. Once signed in, you'll be viewing Schoology as yourself, the parent. This is indicated at the top right, where you will see your name. Click your name, then the name of your child to switch your view, so you are viewing Schoology as your child

  2. Note that when viewing as your child, you will see this border running across the top:

Also note that when viewing as your child, there are certain parts of Schoology that are inaccessible. 'Private Access Only' errors are usually caused by a parent interacting with parts of Schoology reserved for students. For example, as a parent you can view assignment details, but cannot edit or submit an assignment. Similarly, for materials linked to school Google accounts (ending in @dock.academy), some things may not be visible to you as a parent. For example, while a Google doc might be shared with your child, it might not be viewable or editable by you, since the teacher has not shared the document/presentation/material with you. Please view our other guide to have a student sign in as themselves in order to submit coursework from home.

Viewing Upcoming Assignments, Grades, and Enrollments

  1. To view your child's assignments, you can look at the upper right, where it says 'To Do' and 'Upcoming'. Overdue items will show here.

  2. While you can see some current student activity on the home screen, to view all your child's grades, you can click on Grades (top), then on Grades Report:

  3. When you click each course, you will see a breakdown by marking period, then by category.

  4. If comments have been made by a teacher on an assignment, you will see those next to the point values:
  5. Please note that an assignment with a dash, e.g. '- /10' or similar may mean that the assignment is submitted, but not graded yet. These do not negatively impact scores. You can see when an assignment is marked as 'Missing' or 'Exempt' using the symbols below:
  6. To view the courses in which your child is enrolled, you can click on 'Enrollments' next to 'Student Activity' on the home screen. This also gives a grade overview.

  7. You can also click 'Courses' at the top, while viewing as the child, to view the courses, as organized by your child. Be aware that if your child has more than 12 courses, you may not see all of them here since the panel only shows the first twelve courses. You can click these courses to view materials and updates.

  8. Finally, near the bottom of the child's home screen, you can see material that was recently submitted or graded. This can be helpful to check if assignments were just turned in and the teacher indicates it was graded!
